Volleyball Rules

Basic Volleyball Rules

Volleyball is a sport where two teams hit a ball back and forth with their hands over a high net that separates them. Each team can hit the ball three times while the ball is on that team’s side. The goal is to hit the ball to the other team so that the ball hits the ground on the opposing team’s side of the court. When that happens a point is scored. Points are also scored when a team commits a fault or does not return the ball according to the rules. The volleyball court itself is made of specific dimensions and is marked with lines to signify where players are to play.

There are six players on each team. Three players stand closer to the net in front of the attack line and the other three stand behind the attack land closer to the end of the court. To decide who starts the game with the first serve, one team tosses a coin. The player who is in the server position, serves the ball by hitting it over to the other team’s court.

Volleyball Rules

One of the ways a team can score points is when the other team makes an error or fault. For example, if the team that touched the volleyball last and the ball touches the floor outside of the court, the other team scores a point. If the ball doesn’t go completely through the antennas attached to the net, the other team scores the point. Another error occurs if one team touches the ball more than three teams before they hit it over to the other side of the net. Also a player faults if the player touches the ball more than once before passing it or hitting it over the net. One other example of a fault is when the server takes longer than 8 seconds to deliver the serve. These are only a few of the volleyball rules on errors and faults.

Rules And Regulations Of Volleyball

Over time, some rules and regulations of volleyball change, whether they are major or minor changes. A recent major change occurred in 2000 when it was decided that if when the ball is served and the ball touches the net, the play can continue so long as the ball makes it to the other team’s side of the court. This is known as the “let serve”. Another change was made to the area from where the server delivers the serve, known as the service area, which was expanded.
