The attack line separates the front row and back row playing positions. Lines on the court are 5cm or 2” wide and they are placed inside the court dimensions. The net height is 7’11” 5/8” for men and 7’4” 1/8” for women. Ceiling height should be at least 7m or 23’ from the court so there is sufficient space and no obstructions.

AVP, which stands for the Association of Volleyball Professionals, and the international FIVB league, have the same requirements. The sand court is 16m x 8m which is about 52’6” x 26’3”. Both organizations reduced the size of sand courts from the standard indoor court by 2002. Surrounding the court is a free zone and is at least 2m or 6’6”. The net height is 7’11” 5/8 for men and 7’4” 1/8” for women. Net height is measured when the sand is raked. Feet sinking into the sand are not taken into consideration when measuring net height. Volleyball Court Rules And Regulations

There are six positions in play on the volleyball court. The attack line separates the positions so that there are three players between the attack line and volleyball net, and three players between the attack line and end line. Each position has it’s own area. Area “1” is where the server plays. The players rotate clockwise when the team gets the serve. Around the playing court is the free zone, which is 2m wide. Once the volleyball is served, players can play in the free zone. The lines on the court are placed so they are inside the court dimensions. That means when the ball touches the line, the ball is “in”. To make sure that the volleyball goes completely over the net while in play, there are antennae that the ball has to pass through without touching.
