Beginner Bowling Tips
It is very important to make sure the bowling ball is positioned correctly. The ball should be held in front of the player, located anywhere from the chin down to the knee. The ball should not be held any higher than chin level, as injury may occur. The player can stand up straight or bent, however, the knees should be bent so that the player is relaxed.
The player should hold the ball with both hands. The thumb and fingers of the right hand should be in the ball, with the bulk of the ball’s weight resting on the left hand. It’s also important that the player not release the bowling ball until after it has passed their left foot. This is so the bowling ball is out in the alley where it’s supposed to be, and so that it’s more likely to be on target with the pins.
Bowling Tips And Techniques
For those bowlers more advanced in the game, there are also some tips for bowling they can follow in order to improve. Players should work on keeping their arm swing loose and relaxed. This requires not squeezing their fingers or thumb on the ball. A relaxed thumb requires that the bowling ball be fitted; the thumb hole should neither be too loose nor too tight. If it’s too loose, your thumb will end up squeezing the ball and the swing will not be relaxed. Thumb inserts may be required in order to secure a better fit.
The player should not turn the bowling ball during the arm swing release. This will likely throw off the intended swing. The thumb should be relaxed and eyes should be focused on the pins. A strong release requires that the player’s legs have good leverage and that they finish up approximately six inches from the foul line. For good leverage, the player should bend one knee and slide their foot straight toward the foul line. The leg that does not slide should move sideways to the opposite side of their bowling arm. The six-inch rule gets the bowling ball further down the lane, which makes it more likely to hit the pins. If a player finds themselves further than six inches from the foul line after they release the ball, they should move in closer next time.
Bowling Drop Away Method
In order to achieve the bowling drop away method, the player needs to hold the ball at shoulder height and take a small step forward. The ball is not moved, but is instead dropped down into the swing when the player takes their second step. Players should try sliding their foot out on the first step until they get used to the method.
