Early bowling balls were made out of hard rubber, but today’s bowling balls are made out of various assortments of plastic resins. Today’s materials allow the bowling ball to get a good grip on the bowling lane’s wood finish. There is an enormous variety of bowling balls for sale in many different price and ability ranges, from children’s bowling balls to professional’s bowling balls. Each type of bowling ball has different traits that make them more desirable to a various assortment of bowlers.

Choose A Bowling Ball

There are four types of bowling balls: urethane, reactive resin, particle, and plastic. Each type of bowling ball has distinctive traits that set them apart.

Urethane is the softer type of bowling ball. It drags on the lane, which increases its hook potential. This type of ball is good for those that get the ball closer to the gutter, as the hook helps pull it back toward the lane’s center.

Reactive resin bowling balls are similar to urethane bowling balls. However, small resin particles are added to the urethane mixture. Resin is sticky, so this bowling ball type increases the hold on the lane. Resin also skids on the lane more, and thus the balls have faster speeds than the urethane.

Particle bowling balls are reactive resin with small ground pieces of glass. The glass increases the ball’s grit, which gives it a better hold on the lane. Professional bowlers generally use this type of bowling ball due to its increased holding performance.

The fourth type of bowling ball, plastic, is the most common type. Plastic bowling balls are the cheapest and most long-lasting of the bowling ball lineup. Plastic bowling balls tend to skid, rather than roll, down a lane. They are harder to control than the other types of balls.

Bowling Ball Drilling

Once the bowler has selected the bowling ball of their choice, bowling ball drilling should be considered. Bowling ball drilling is an excellent way for a bowler to be absolutely certain that their bowling ball of choice is the right fit and provides the optimal comfort level. This ensures that the bowler will play their best possible game.

The ball has to be fitted after the bowler’s hand pattern, flexibility, and ball release action are known.
